The board game Candyland, was created in the early 1940s by Eleanor Abbott. She created this game after thousands of Americans were hit with polio disease. Eleanor was a victim of the disease as well and wanted to create something fun as a pastime for kids who also were coping with this. This game became a huge success and many people remember this board game as the first one they have ever played. Even though it wasn't well-received when it was released, Up in Smoke is credited with establishing the marijuana comedy genre and is now considered a classic. Even though it got off to a rocky start, the film earned $44,364,244 at the box office.

One of the most popular animated television series of all time was first aired on this day in 1969. "Scooby-Doo Where Are You!" is the first series of what has become a long-running media franchise. Patriot Day

Today is legendary golfer, Arnold Palmer's birthday! Born on September 10th, 1929, Arnold Palmer was one of the "Big Three", Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicholas and Gary Player who helped popularize golf in the 50's and 60's. Throughout Palmer's career, he went on to win 62 PGA Tour events and was one of the original 13 inductees to the World Golf Hall of Fame.
